Small Indulgences

Philosophy's Amazing Grace Bath, Shampoo, & Shower Gel

Every Christmas, this lovely scented soap is at the top of my want list for a reason. It leaves your skin extra soft and smooth, & the fresh scent (my fave) lingers all day. The best part: it is a body wash, shampoo, and bubble bath combined! Now how great is that?

I make the stuff last all year because it is pretty pricey ($22 for 16oz), but it's totally worth every cent (no pun intended)! heh. It makes for great gifts too.

Once in a while, like this evening, sweet Naomi gets to suds up with Amazing Grace. It just smells too good to not share! Indulgences for a girl so small, but she smells sooo good that every hug lasts a little longer! Tiny painted toenails and bathing with Mama's favorite soap - what's next? Frilly cupcake bloomers for her first birthday? You betcha! ;) I hope Deddy's ready for this!

Bloomers found on etsy. The gal who made these is one of my favorite sellers on etsy, and she works at home! Love everything about it! http://www.etsy.com/people/sugarandspicekid

"Omivore"

Naomi is quite the eater now that solid foods are a regular part of her diet. She is always up for trying something new, and I have yet to find a food that she will not eat (besides rutabagas - but who can blame her)?! We started out with the basic mushy baby foods like banana and avocado, and eventually, now that she is nine months old, we started placing little bites of our dinner on her tray. She absolutely loves the taste of home-cooked meals, and she turns her nose up to most baby foods out of the jar now!

I love cooking for her, and most of the time, she eats what we eat. Doing so makes it a lot easier to sit down as a family and eat together & it is easier on the wallet. I find it tricky to cook a lot of the meat recipes from baby food books because I need to have items on hand specifically for that meal. Don't get me wrong - I still love to cook from the baby books. There are trays of chicken & veggies, and pureed fruits & veggies in the freezer right now, but it is much easier to just cook a casserole and let her eat with us unless we're out and about. She really enjoys being able to eat what we're eating, and we're enjoying watching her lap it up! Nights at the table have easily become my favorite part of day.

Naomi grubbin out - she loves feeding herself!

watching the dogs outside while enjoying my first quesadilla with mom!

Now I could go all into discussing "going green" and cooking the healthiest meals from the freshest and most organic veggies around, but I will save THAT particular post for a rainy day. I will say that we do try to buy organic when we can, but most of the time I buy what's on sale and wash it real good when I get home. At least washing it makes me feel a little better about it! :) We try to hit up the farmers market on the weekends and are now looking forward to all the fresh produce coming this Spring & Summer. It's just too expensive for us to go green completely. Although we do drink organic apple juice & eat organic yogurt, we eat our share of the freshest and most non-organic veggies around too! :)

Tonight we got a pretty big kick out of Omi tearing up some kale. She absolutely LOVES the greenest of greens with lots of garlic, and Andrew now calls her the Omivore! There's no denying it - she loves it all! Fish, broccoli, cauliflower, squash casserole, salmon patties - you name it! Definitely her mama's daughter! I've never been a picky eater, and I'm delighted she's the same!

what was left of dinner tonight -
chicken pot pie with biscuits - a new family favorite!

Laughs are Contagious

Lately, friends of mine have been posting videos on Facebook of babies laughing, and there really is nothing more contagious than the belly laugh of an infant. We've all seen them on America's Funniest Home Videos, and they keep us wanting more!

I'm glad to be able to share this one with you - the moments are always so natural and unscripted, and as usual, the camera always seems to be in the other room or accidentally forgotten at home. We actually caught this sweet moment on tape, so this video is truly special! Enjoy!

(not sure how to crop video yet, but the first 50 seconds are the best!)

Makeover time!

Plain and simple: this blog needs help! For a while there, I was even lagging on uploading pictures, so it is now time to revamp the blog once and for all, and "no buts about it." I'll be adding new pictures, new stories of our adventures in parenting thus far, and snapping pics and videos from all of Omi's firsts (think first steps & haircut). Precious moments that need to be captured!

The new "look" is bound to give us all lots of smiles and melt all of our hearts, and it will definitely help us to do a better job chronicling our daily lives. It's gonna make it more fun for y'all to be able to check in on us more often and see what we're getting into down here in the lowcountry, and that's what it's all about!

**Note to the fellas: There may be occasional posts about mom-related interests and goods, so I add this note now just as a precaution. Most posts will only follow our daily lives with the littlest Lee, but no promises that I won't be discussing diapering, breastfeeding, & baby-wearing!
